Our attempt to summit Mt. Whitney this past weekend was unsuccessful. Two days prior to our climb, the Southern Sierras were hit with an unseasonable snowstorm. In fact, the night before we were to set off, the upper elevations received 8 – 10 inches of snow. Unfortunately our party (Blake, Doug, Mark and myself) was not equipped for a winter ascent.
We decided to hike as far as we could make it in our trail runners (no one wore boots). We made it to High Camp (~12,000’) where we decided to turn back. Check out these video clips:
